But the British actor drew accusations of cultural appropriation by saying he prepared for his role in part by speaking to “numerous friends in the gay community” and watching every season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race. The Amazing Spider-Man veteran drew ire for saying, “I am a gay man right now, just without the physical act” while answering questions at a panel for the London production of Angels in America, Variety reports. Actor Andrew Garfield is not exactly being applauded by the LGBTQ community.
